Contributor Monthly Log - June 2018

Recommended Posts

  • Contributors

On the first day of the new month, someone from the Contributor group will post a thread providing a summary for discussions that were discussed in the Contributor section during the previous month. This is to allow the community to be more informed and have a better understanding of the Contributor group. These logs will be closed for the time being. If you have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to be brought to the attention of the Contributor group, message any of the Contributors and I'm sure they'd be happy to bring it up for discussion if deemed necessary.

You can see our previous logs here: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], and [8].

Concluded discussions

These topics are concluded and are no longer being discussed. If you have any concerns about the conclusion of these topics, feel free to send a message and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Contributors inactivity/low participation

It has been suggested that there should be a set limit for Contributors to be inactive. Inactivity is defined as little to no participation in the section. A debate was held with possible solutions including creating a dedicated time limit of inactivity (e.g. 45 days) or privately reporting the inactive Contributor in question to a forum administrator. The Contributors have come to the consensus that if we see that a Contributor is inactive, they will be privately reported to forum administrators.

Feedback chat

Feedback chat has been approved and was given official status. The chat, based on an idea by Lemona, is designed to allow users to voice their constructive feedback about xat directly with Contributors and Volunteers, and is particularly useful for international users who do not own a forum account. That is, the chat is intended to give users a greater voice for shaping the community. If any unique thoughtful ideas are proposed, they may be raised in the appropriate place with credit given to that user. Although still in its early stages and under development, the chat is now open to visitors.

A possible way to know users' opinions about xat

The majority of xat users are unaware of the forums or Contributors, so an idea was proposed that a questionnaire be made on official chats with questions that would allow Contributors to know users' opinions and ideas to improve the xat community. The idea was eventually dropped, as we instead made an international chat called Feedback, where users can voice their opinion and give constructive ideas on how to improve xat.

LinkValidator Unblock Texturas

The main owner of the group Texturas requested their blog www.texturasxat.com to be whitelisted on LinkValidator. The website's purpose is to "Share Resources for xat.com designs, gifs, xatspace backgrounds, xatme, etc. in healthy coexistence." Because the domain name contains the word xat in it, Admin needs to approve it. The Contributors have viewed the website in question and have come to an agreement that the site be whitelisted on LinkValidator. https://prnt.sc/jxamja

Ongoing discussions

What makes a tribute chat tribute?

A discussion was raised to clarify the definition of a Tribute chat, which is left rather ambiguous on the wiki. This could lead to stronger applications in the future and more consistent decision-making among Contributors. Points included: 1) whether two chats of the same type could be tribute; (2) whether the chat needs to serve a purpose within the community; and (3) whether the chat needs an external resource (i.e. website/blog). This has been an ongoing discussion from last month and hasn’t really progressed much since.
