On the first day of the new month, someone from the Contributor group will post a thread providing a summary for discussions that were discussed in the Contributor section during the previous month. This is to allow the community to be more informed and have a better understanding of the Contributor group. These logs will be closed for the time being. If you do have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to be brought to the attention of the Contributor group, message any of the Contributors and I'm sure they'd be happy to bring it up for discussion if deemed necessary.

The World Cup starts this month! Time to gather family and friends and cheer for the team of your country. Good luck for everyone!

Concluded discussions

These topics are concluded and are no longer being discussed. If you have any concerns about the conclusion of these topics, feel free to send a message and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Noticias external resource request

Spoiler

Noticias is a tribute chat that provides news, tutorials and generators for xat in Spanish and English. Its website blog https://noticiasxat.com/ was unblocked and iframed below Noticias chat in recent months. It has now been added to the External Resources list. You can see the list here.

More helpers involved with Facebook

Spoiler

A member of the group suggested that the xat Facebook page should be used to promote security campaigns, information on new powers, contests and more. Contests and security campaign projects are already in progress. More helpers are going to be added to the Facebook page in the near future.

Loja Middlemen

Spoiler

We were asked for feedback on a fee-based system to help incentive Loja's middlemen to continue to provide the service. In this system, the middlemen overseeing a sale would get a small percentage of the value of the ID that's being sold. For example, if the ID being sold is worth 5000-10000 xats, they would be allowed to ask 300 xats a fee (value is illustrative and subject to change). We were also asked whether the middlemen would need to share a percentage of the fee with Loja, to help build prize funds for contests and giveaways. The group consensus was in favor of adding the fees and splitting a percentage with Loja.

Verified groups

Spoiler

A member of the group has suggested a new rank classification for the Chats wiki article (https://xat.wiki/Chats) called Verified. A Verified chat could be any chat that is relevant within the community and it could fulfill a few specific requirements, such as abiding by xat terms, having a set of guidelines (rules) that are considered acceptable and being popular/relevant. The user believes that the word Verified is more catchy than Tribute, and that this form of recognition (listing) could be an incentive for chat owners. It would also encourage users to spend time to building and maintaining a community on xat. The group decided to take no further action and to leave how it is.

Ongoing discussions

Feedback chat

Spoiler

A member of the group proposed a new international chat where users can voice their constructive feedback about xat directly with Volunteers and Contributors. In this instance, feedback means ideas that improve xat, and would not include thoughtless insults. The chat would be run by Contributors, Forum Moderators and Volunteers. The outstanding suggestions (those that are unique and worth raising) would then be posted on the forums for the public or Contributors to discuss, depending on their nature, with credit given to that user. This chat is designed mostly for users who do not have a forum account, who may otherwise be unable to voice their opinions, and so may include non-English speaking communities. This would also be a fun new opportunity to open a new chat.

Contributors inactivity/low participation

Spoiler

It was suggested that we impose limits for inactive Contributors, i.e. if a Contributor is inactive for X months, or if they contribute little to the group, they would be removed accordingly. This would help promote activity, effort and quality within discussions. A counter-argument is that Contributors have lives outside xat, and that some discussions are more relevant to some users than others. Furthermore, the limits themselves would be difficult to define in concrete, as the Contributor could post on the last day and reset the timer. The discussion has not yet reached a consensus.

What makes a tribute chat tribute

Spoiler

A discussion was raised to clarify the definition of a tribute chat, which is left rather ambiguous on the wiki. This could lead to stronger applications in the future and more consistent decision-making among Contributors. Points included: 1) whether two chats of the same type could be tribute; (2) whether the chat needs to serve a purpose within the community; and (3) whether the chat needs an external resource (i.e. website/blog). Talks are progressing and we hope to reach a conclusion soon.

A possible way to know user's opinions about xat

Spoiler

It was suggested that every official chat runs a questionnaire/survey/poll to gather the opinions of its users. The results would then be used to create discussions on what xat could improve and do differently. However, the idea was met with a mixed reception. Some Contributors believed the idea would be an excellent way for communities to share their voices. Others were sceptical about whether any of the recommendations would actually be implemented, and whether users would be left disappointed. Discussions are still progressing.

See you next time!
