Contributor Monthly Log - March 2018

Recommended Posts

Welcome to another edition of the xat Contributor log!

On the first day of the new month, someone from the Contributors group will post a thread providing a summary of discussions that were discussed in the Contributors section during the previous month. This is to allow the community to be more informed and have a better understanding of the Contributors group. These logs will be closed for the time being. If you do have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to be brought to the attention of the Contributor group, message any of the Contributors and I'm sure they'd be happy to bring it up for discussion if deemed necessary. Please find our previous logs here: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5].

Concluded discussions

These topics are concluded and are no longer being discussed. If you have any concerns about the conclusion of these topics, feel free to send a message and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Tribute chat applications

Spoiler

Tribute chat applications are now live. The term "Tribute" refers to a chat group that may be a useful resource, and these chat groups are not run by xat. A list of current tribute chats can be found on the wiki page here. Like Contributor applications, Tribute chat applications will be reviewed and voted on by Contributors. You can apply for your chat to join the listing here. Be sure to provide as much information about your chat as possible, if you do.

noticiasxat.com domain unblock

Spoiler

Following the unblocking of the noticiasxat.com website domain back in December 2017 (framed on the Linkvalidator page), we received a request for the website domain to be framed below Noticias chat too. Security concerns were again raised, but the majority of Contributors decided to allow the request.

New main owner on Help chat

Spoiler

Muffins has decided to leave Help chat, and Roberto has been placed in temporary charge. Users are advised to use the translator to understand his commands. (April Fools!)

Ongoing Discussions

Loja middlemen

Spoiler

It is being discussed whether users should pay fees to use the services of middlemen on Loja chat. Middlemen are users who help other users trade safely with each other - particularly with ID sales, which are subject to high risk of scams. These fees would be split between the middleman (compensation for their time and efforts) and the chat itself (to fund contests and giveaways). The exact fees being charged and the percentage split would depend on the value of xats involved within the transaction. It is hoped the change would incentivise middlemen and bring more users to Loja. Talks are ongoing.

xat Facebook

Spoiler

The old Facebook page has been merged with the new one. We now have over 2000 likes! Meanwhile, the security campaign (raising safety awareness around xat) is gaining momentum and new ideas are being discussed for what to post, e.g. material from the wiki. It was also suggested that we promote official chats, which could potentially attract more users. Click here to view our Facebook page.

Facebook contests (March-April)

Spoiler

More contests are planned over the next few weeks on the Facebook page. Ideas are being discussed for what types of contests to hold, and which are the most suitable. The plan is to hold one or two contests each day, with prizes ranging from 500-1,000 xats per contest. Send us a private message if you have any ideas yourself!

Contributors inactivity/low participation

Spoiler

It was suggested that we impose limits for inactive Contributors, i.e. if a Contributor is inactive for X months, they would be removed from the group. This would help promote activity within discussions. A counter-argument is that Contributors have lives outside xat, and that some discussions are more relevant to some users than others. Furthermore, the limits themselves would be hard to define in concrete, as the Contributor could post on the last day and reset the timer. A better idea might be for forum staff or volunteers to decide and remove inactive Contributors. Again, talks are ongoing.

Until next time!
