Volunteers Popular Post Crow Posted February 2, 2018 Volunteers Popular Post Share Posted February 2, 2018 On the first day of the new month, someone from the Contributor group will post a thread providing a summary of discussions that were discussed in the Contributor section during the previous month. This is to allow the community to be more informed and have a better understanding of the Contributor group. These logs will be closed for the time being. If you do have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to be brought to the attention of the Contributor group, message any of the Contributors and I'm sure they'd be happy to bring it up for discussion if deemed necessary. Please find our previous logs here: [1] [2] [3]. Doesn't time fly? We're now into the second (and shortest) month of the year, which means Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine's Day and Fifty Shades Freed to look forward to! Oh, and another monthly Contributor Review, of course. Special thanks to our writers as always. Concluded Discussions These topics are concluded and are no longer being discussed. If you have any concerns about the outcomes of these topics, please send me a private message, and I'll try to help. Listing Bots on xat.wiki/Chats Spoiler A Contributor proposed for bot chats to be listed on the Chats wiki article, which is used to list official/tribute chats. It's not a popular debate, and we'll wait for more opinions before concluding this. Currently, the surrounding opinion is that bot chats don't fit the wiki article since they aren't official/tribute chats — nor owned by xat, and that listing them on the Bot wiki article is enough reference. Create groups of Contributors Spoiler A member of the group suggested we create and maintain a formal list of groups of Contributors based on country/language and xat trends. The idea was to create representativity camps so all the communities and centers of interest on xat could be represented, e.g. helpers, traders, designers, gamers, radio people, tech people, chatters. It was suggested we have 1-2 representative users in each category, although the overall idea was reproached due to many users having diverse interests already, and the argument that users should be picked based on their actual contributions rather than trying to fill a quota. Overall, the vast majority voted no. Noticias tribute request Spoiler A few months after Mundoxat was removed from the list of Tribute chats, Noticias managers requested us to make their chat Tribute. The chat (alongside with its site) provides Spanish speakers with updated information on xat powers and functionalities. As Noticias was just launched, the Contributors' team decided to wait a few weeks before discussing the request in order to see if the chat was actually supported by the Spanish community or not. After this probation period, the chat seemed very popular and appreciated. As the managers of Noticias had good records with xat and had previous experience in managing a popular Spanish chat, we decided to add Noticias as a Tribute chat. Hopefully the Spanish community can benefit from this! Trade discussion and thoughts Spoiler A user claims that the Trade chat main owner isn't coming online much and that the Fairtrade guide isn't being properly updated. They believe a new leader is needed who can properly manage the chat and update and maintain the prices of powers. In response to this, it was suggested that the user reporting the issue should have opened a ticket, contacted the main owner or should have messaged a Volunteer on the forum if there was an issue regarding the chat. Thus, the matter will be dealt with internally by Trade staff. Ongoing Discussions Applying to become a Contributor Spoiler After two months of steady progress, a poll was set up to finalise the details on Contributor applications. Most Contributors voted to make use of a hidden forum, being the easiest and most practical place for it. The majority of the group also suggested that users cannot dispute their rejections. The sticking point remains whether to provide users with reasons for their rejections, and whether to allow users to apply more than once - and what the potential time frames could be for this. Hopefully, we can push forward a conclusion next month. Tribute applications [no updates this month] Spoiler It is being discussed whether to allow users to apply for Tribute status on their chat. “Tribute" refers to a chat group that may be a useful resource, e.g. Fondos, Graphics (design chats) and xat_test (testing chat). Tribute chats are listed here. Currently, users can apply for Tribute status via ticket, although there are no formal guidelines in place. The idea is to encourage more resource sites to apply, and to help boost/encourage resource sites for other languages. Stay tuned for updates! xat Facebook [no updates this month] Spoiler xat is always willing to develop its Facebook page (https://www.fb.com/xatchats). That's why we recently reached out for content ideas in the xat Facebook Page forum topic. Hopefully, we've now found one! This is a long-term project and we still haven't made much progress. In the meantime, please send in your thoughts and suggestions for the page. You can also start thinking about what could be a good xat mascot, e.g. the Cadet smiley. The xat Facebook page currently has over 800 likes, and we have contacted Admins about becoming verified (along with the Twitter). Bonus: Did you notice the Wiki has recently updated its skin to mimic xat.com? Visit it here. 6
