Why do we celebrate Jesus's birthday on Christmas?

Recommended Posts

Many argue that Jesus was born on December 25th. However, there is no preferred evidence of this in biblical sources.

Why do you think we celebrate Jesus on Christmas day? No one knows for sure when he was born on a given dated day and month.

All most traditions of Christmas have pagan origins, Jesus' birthday was probably in the fall. The Winter Solstice Festival was co-opted by the church and renamed Christmas. In the pre-Christian era, as the winter solstice approached and the plants died, pagans brought evergreen boughs into their homes as an act of sympathetic magic, intended to guard the life essences of the plants until spring.

This custom was later appropriated by Northern Europeans and eventually became the so-called Christmas tree. Not to mention Santa Claus customs and red clothes that are heaps of pagan rituals.

As history and culture sometimes intertwine, this will always aim for a specific point which may have a greater focus.
