what is the size limit for signatures on the forum?

I post the link in signature and it converts it automatically to image but smaller size

if I do img tag it will be much bigger but issue is that it will be too big

what is the best way to limit an image?

is bbcode version too big?

pasting the image code directly (no bbcode)

The maximum image dimensions to display are 615x215 px.

If you exceed this cap, a thumbnail is created.

If you double-click the images you inserted, you can see this for yourself in the image editor. So, it's a little more broad than just signature.

If you want to limit the size, you could try a resize with HTML; if that doesn't work, I would resort to the first method you used to insert the image. As others have mentioned, our guidelines ask that signatures be of less than 150 px in height and your only other constraint is an upload limit.
