At the beginning of a new month, someone from the Contributor group will post a topic providing a summary for discussions that were discussed in the Contributor section during the previous month. This is to allow the community to be more informed and have a better understanding of the Contributor group. If you have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to be brought to the attention of the Contributor group, message any of the Contributors.

You can see our previous logs here.

Concluded Discussions

These topics are concluded and are no longer being discussed. If you have any concerns about the conclusion of these topics, feel free to send a message and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Re-opening Ajutor chat

Spoiler

Ajutor chat has now been reopened with volunteers placed in charge. Ajutor is the official help chat in the Romanian language, and was previously redirected to Assistance in March 2017. The chat will once again serve as a useful community for users seeking help there. You can read the full announcement and comments here, if you wish to post about it.

Redirecting Pomocy chat

Spoiler

Pomocy will be redirected to Assistance chat. Pomocy is the official help chat in the Polish language, and has been inactive for a long period of time with little prospect of recovery. Redirecting the chat will allow users to obtain the help they need on Assistance without waiting around. We thank the staff of Pomocy for their work over the years, and hopefully this is goodbye but not farewell.

Language-specific FAQ pages

Spoiler

We discussed converting redirected help chats (e.g. Aide, Chuai, Hulp, Ndim, Pomoc) into FAQ pages with answers to the most well-known issues on xat. These FAQ pages, each written in the language specific to that chat, would help users find instant help when there are no helpers available in their language on Assistance chat. There would also be a place to submit suggestions for issues not listed. However, the idea was ultimately opposed due to a lack of translators available - with google translate not an adequate option - and the theory that users may prefer direct help from a person.

Minimum activity rule for official/tribute chats

Spoiler

A discussion was held about two things. The first was to implement a minimum activity rule for all official and tribute chats, i.e. establishing minimum criteria of activity that chats should meet to remain listed on the wiki. The second was to establish a fixed, permanent protocol for dealing with inactive official chats (but not tribute chats), e.g. always redirecting to Assistance chat, or always changing management, or always giving the management an opportunity to fix things. Ultimately, for both topics, it was decided to handle things on a case-by-case basis, as there are always situational factors to consider with each chat.

New manager on Assistance chat

Spoiler

@Elea is the new manager of Assistance chat. The decision was taken following concerns about the inactivity of the previous manager, Arthur. Elea was previously owner rank on the chat, and will now oversee a new chapter in the chat's history. We sincerely thank Arthur for his work and contributions to Assistance in the past, and we wish Elea good luck going forward.

Ongoing discussions

These topics are currently ongoing. If you would like to offer feedback and/or suggestions, feel free to send me a message, and I'd be happy to convey it to the rest of the group. You can also post a comment if you would like to offer feedback and/or suggestions.

Tribute chat applications

Spoiler

Additional rules have been proposed for users submitting tribute applications. It’s been suggested that no material changes should be allowed during the application process, which may include making a new main owner and changing the chat’s purpose. This would help contributors remain fully informed and up-to-date with the chat's status, and would guard against unexpected changes being made.

Spam Limit

Spoiler

A discussion was raised about updating the spam limit system on chats. One option proposed is to remove the filter for subscribers and add a new Gcontrol setting for those who choose to disable it on their chat (to cover non-subscribers). The discussion has now been postponed until HTML5 is further into its development, as changes may be made anyway.

International Forums

Spoiler

Currently, English is the only language allowed on the forum unless a specific topic or subforum authorizes the use of a different language (e.g. Soporte en Español / Suporte em Português). A member of the group has suggested that xat opens up topics or subforums to different languages that have a high volume of users, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese. This would ideally open up the community to more users. However, a negative argument is that we already have forum clubs for this purpose. There are no updates this month.

New Image Providers

Spoiler

With Tinypic officially ceasing operations last year, a discussion was raised about allowing new image providers on xat. These image providers would have to be reliable and ideally available in all countries. There are no updates this month.

Hi Stif, some contributors do not participate in any topic or discussion, even some contributors do not even enter the forum. What do you think about this? Actually, this is also a matter of debate. Can new arrangements be made about this. Do you think that a new arrangement is needed about this subject? I see you most active ''contributor'' in forum topics

They are not required to answer public posts and discussions.

Of course that their opinion would be very welcome, but when there are problems to be discussed by the contributors, they are discussed in the private forum, so users are not aware of the issues discussed or the opinions / answers given by the contributors. Participate or not in public topics seems to be a personal decision of each of them, although they should be more involved with the community.
