Due to these kinds of issues, we decided to roll out the beta on /xat before the public release on all chats.

 

For example, we never spotted the link power issues or /o issues before it was released for all... very bad issues for heavily used features.

 

We can't risk releasing versions immediately unless we are confident we are not rolling out critical issues to users.

 

So, we'll sure benefit from this change. If the beta testing goes well with no serious bugs spotted, it will surely roll out on all chats ASAP.

I don't see any real reason to remove this. This was added for accessibility reasons. 

 

You can still use the old way (navbar) if you liked it better, so I don't see the harm of this but the benefits.

React to your friends’ messages!

xat has released a new subscribers feature, which allows you to react to users’ messages.

 

How does it work?

To react to a message, you need to hover over it and click the react button.

 

Once you click it, it will display the reactions selector and you will be able to select the smiley you want to react with.

Who Reacted?

The reactions selector also allows you to see in detail who reacted to each message and even tells you how long ago the reaction was done! In order to see the time, you need to hover over the reaction and it will show you it in a tooltip.

Other Important Info

• This is a subscriber-only feature, so you should have days to react and see who reacted to others and your messages.
• Messages can only have up to 7 (different) reactions.
• You can only react to others’ messages. This means that you can’t react to your own messages.
• You can only react once per message, if the message was sent in the main tab. This means that you can react as many times as you want in a private chat.
• If you don’t like this feature, you can disable it by going to your Account Settings > Appearance > Reactions. Keep in mind that, although you will no longer be able to see the reactions anymore, others will still be able to react to your messages.

Spaceban was the last game released (a year ago) and then we focused on other stuff as we had 4 games done so far, but we will be making games again soon. (and this time's for real )

Yeah, but this pop-up player wasn't designed to be used outside of the chatbox, since this is why we have the Media app for. 

 

If the size of it is too big and covers important info for you, you can always switch it to play on the Media app, as Kyle suggested.

STATUSFX (ID: 623) - EPIC

 

This power allows you to add animated text effects to your status.

 

How does it work?

To add effects to your status, you are required to have at least one unit of this power. 

 

You need to head over to the settings page > powers section > Statusfx setting.

You will be able to choose the effect you want and the speed it will have. You can choose the speed from 1 – 6.

 

 

How much does it cost?

This power costs 5,000 xats per unit. 

 

We have 13 effects in total so far, and you will be able to unlock 4 effects for every Statusfx power you buy. This means you would need at least 4 units to unlock them all for now.

 

Current Effects

1 => Scroll Left, Scroll Right, Scroll Up, Scroll Down

2 => Bounce, Fade-Out, Shake, Translucent

3 => Flip, Slide Down, Slide Right, Typing

4 => Wave

 

Some effects like Scrolll Up/Down, Fade-out and Typing allow you to add a second status! A text field will appear in the powers setting.

😅This was a new change we implemented to reduce lag. 
 

For now, animations will only play if you got your mouse over the chat box (just like the banner).

 

There will be an update soon to make this change optional as a setting.

Markdown - format your messages and quote others!

 

xat has now released a new markdown system which will allow you further customization in your chat messages!

 

What is Markdown?

 

It is a markup language that allows you to format your messages with a plain text syntax. On xat, it will allow you to make your text Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and even do quotes or hypertexts!

 

How does it work?

 

There are several ways of adding markdown to your chat messages, either manually, keyboard shortcuts or using the context menu, which will be explained below:

 

Manually: You can simply add the markdown using your keyboard with the following syntax:

• Italic: Enclose your text with one asterisk (*). 
      e.g.: Hello, *how are you?*   
• Bold: Enclose your text with two asterisks (**). 
      e.g.: Are you **really** sure?
• Strikethrough: Enclose your text with one tilde (~).
      e.g.: I ~like~ hate flash.
• Blockquote: Start the text with >[ and end with ].
      e.g.: >[I ~like~ hate flash].  
• Hypertext: Enclosed the text with brackets ([]) and then add the link next to it in parentheses. 
      e.g.: Visit the [best chat ever!](https://xat.com/html5) 

 

Keyboard Shortcuts: You just need to select the text you want to format in the text entry field and then press ctrl + the corresponding key to the markdown, which will be detailed below:

• Italic: ctrl + i
• Bold: ctrl + b
• Strikethrough: ctrl + u
• Blockquote: ctrl + q 

 

 

Context menu: To open the context menu you just need to select the text you want to format and then right click:

 

 

Quote Icon: You can also quote messages sent by users by clicking the quote icon next to their name. If you click a quoted message, it will scroll into the message's view.

 

 

 

Combinations: You can also do combinations between all of the markdowns.
e.g.: I ***love** this markdown system. **~Flash is so old fashioned~**.

 

 

Note: You can only add markdown to text with at least 3 characters. Plus, smilies won't be displayed inside block quotes.
